For Airbnb hosts · Costa Rica
Every stay, properly invoiced. Without thinking about Hacienda.
Taxo issues the electronic receipt or invoice for each booking, in colones or dollars, sends it to Hacienda (Costa Rica's tax authority) and drafts your monthly VAT return, form 150. You issue it from your phone when the stay ends.

VAT on the stay
The 13% VAT on the stay is yours, not Airbnb's
Airbnb charges VAT only on its own fees: its service fee. It does not collect the 13% on the stay for you. You have to invoice it and report it, and that is what Taxo is for.
Costa Rica's short-term rental law (Ley 9742) requires hosts to issue an itemized digital invoice for the services provided (art. 8 c). The VAT rate is 13% (Ley 6826, art. 10).
Airbnb
What Airbnb charges
Its service fee. Airbnb is registered with Hacienda as a digital services provider and charges VAT on that fee, not on your stay.
You
What you charge
The stay. It carries 13% VAT, goes on the receipt or invoice you give the guest, and you report it on your form 150.
- Lodging
- ₡100,000
- VAT 13%
- ₡13,000
- Total
- ₡113,000
The price you charge the guest already includes VAT: the receipt splits it into lodging and VAT. Round numbers, as an example.
What Taxo does today
Everything a stay needs, in one place
- A receipt for every guest, no ID needed
- The electronic receipt (tiquete electrónico) needs no ID or passport from the guest. It covers almost every booking, including tourists.
- An invoice, when the guest asks for one
- Send your link: the guest types in their details and they land in your contacts, ready to invoice. An invoice (factura electrónica) needs a Costa Rican ID: cédula, DIMEX or NITE.
- Colones or US dollars
- Every dollar receipt carries the exchange rate Hacienda publishes for that day. You don't have to look it up.
- Long stays, invoiced on their own
- For a rental of several months, a recurring invoice goes out by itself every month —or waits for your review— and lets you know.
- One tap opens your WhatsApp with the message and the link to the receipt. You send it, from your own number.
- If Hacienda rejects something, we tell you why
- In plain words and with what to do next. Not an error code.
- Your form 150 draft, every month
- From what you invoiced and what you bought, Taxo drafts the VAT return box by box. You or your accountant review it and file it in TRIBU-CR.
What Taxo doesn't do yet: it doesn't pull your Airbnb bookings or record Airbnb's fee. You issue each receipt yourself.

Before you invoice
Not registered yet?
To issue receipts you must be registered with Hacienda and, as a host, with the ICT, Costa Rica's tourism board (Ley 9742, art. 8). It is shorter than it looks, and we walk you through it.
The guides and the app are in Spanish, the language of Hacienda's forms.
Questions
What hosts ask us
Do I have to invoice if I rent on Airbnb?
Yes. Ley 9742 requires registering with the ICT and with Hacienda, and issuing a digital invoice for the services provided (art. 8). The stay carries 13% VAT.
Doesn't Airbnb already charge the VAT?
Only on its own fees, its service fee. Airbnb does not collect the VAT on the stay for you: you invoice it and report it.
Does Taxo pull my Airbnb bookings?
Not yet. You issue each receipt or invoice yourself in Taxo, on your phone or computer. For long stays, a recurring invoice goes out by itself every month.
How much do I pay with several properties?
The same. Profesional is ₡6,900 a month, VAT included, with no per-property fees and no cap on receipts. If the property is owned by a company, your tax ID decides the plan.
See all plans (in Spanish)Can I charge in US dollars?
Yes. The receipt is issued in dollars with the exchange rate Hacienda publishes for that day, and form 150 converts it to colones.
Is the app in English?
No. The app, the receipts and Hacienda's forms are in Spanish. This page is in English so you know exactly what you are signing up for.
What happens after the 15 days?
Nothing is charged automatically. If you pick a plan, you add your card and carry on. If not, Taxo stops issuing, but you can still see and download everything you issued.
Your next stay, already invoiced.
